A journal about creating calm, thoughtful homes through real, everyday decisions

Bright hallway with white walls, dark wood floors, and a beige runner rug. Six black and gold-framed minimalist art prints are hung on the right wall, illuminated by three wall-mounted lights. A tall potted plant is at the end of the hallway, near a window letting in natural light.

Why I started the Rustic Sunday Journal

There are a lot of beautiful homes online. I know because I scroll them more than I probably should.

And I do love them-really. I love the inspiration, the ideas, the “maybe I’ll try that in my house” moments.

But after awhile, I started noticing something. I wasn’t just looking at homes, I was questioning them.

Why did they choose that sofa?

Would they still pick that paint colour a year later?

How did they decide on those curtains?

and mostly…did it actually work once real life happened?

Not just the styled photo, but everyday life. Kids mess, living in it. Those are the parts I wanted to see. So I decided to start something I wish existed more often.

Welcome to the Rustic Sunday Journal.

This isn’t about having a perfect home, honestly I don’t think I’d even trust that if I saw it.

It’s is about building a home you actually like living in…one decision at a time.

We recently moved into a new house and I’ve been slowly figuring it out room by room. And when I say slowly, I mean I can spend an embarrassing amount of time deciding things like curtain widths or whether a lamp is too tall.

I wish I was more decisive, but here we are.

If you’ve ever stood in a room thinking “something’s off but I can’t figure out what it is,” then you get it. That’s what this journal is about.

I’ll be sharing our renovations, decorating projects, things I’m trying, things I change my mind about, and the pieces I actually end up loving.

I’ll also share the things I make (and sell on Etsy) like my picture ledges and risers-because they’re part of how I style and build the spaces we live in, and they are also what started Rustic Sunday.

More than anything I want to share the process as it really is.

  • the overthinking

  • the small wins

  • the things I thought would work but didn’t

  • and the little decisions that end up making a room finally feel right.

Because I don’ think a beautiful home happens all at once, I think it’s built slowly, one slightly overthought decision at a time lol.

If you’re decorating your own home, figuring things out as you go or just looking for ideas that feel real and doable, I hope you find something useful here.

I hope the Rustic Sunday Journal feels like a place where you can

  • get ideas

  • learn from my trial and error

  • and feel a little more confident making your own decorating decisions

Thanks for being here at the beginning, I’m really glad you’re here.
